Edmonton’s newest fire station had its grand opening celebration November 3rd, 2012. The 17,000 sq.ft. station is located in the southeast and is Edmonton Fire Rescue’s 27th station. The project was designed to allow improved access to the Henday Drive, Calgary Trail and Highway #2 and provide training facilities that all fire rescue personal on the south side of the city will utilize. The station features three drive through bays as well as living and a segregated storage areas.

The project was designed by Architecture Arndt Tkalcic Bengert and utilizes a norman size (3-5/8”D x 2-1/4” H x 11-5/8”L) brick from Endicott Clay Products. The Red Blend, smooth colour was chosen due to its rich red colour. The brick was laid in a third bond pattern. The concrete block masonry back up walls together with the brick allowed for deep returns to the windows which creates a great sense of mass to the exterior walls.  Scorpio Masonry (Northern) Ltd. was the masonry contractor for this project. Brick was installed in the winter 2011 and spring of 2012.
